John plays the trombone and the euphonium, and is currently sharing the baritone parts with Richard Montgomery.  John says that he once nearly dropped a Tuba and observed a falling music stand crushing a violin, but otherwise has not engaged in alternative instruments.

John is a second-year chemical engineering student at the University of Cape Town.

He has confessed to having been voted "Aussie of the month" in Grade 3, having once spent four years in Australia with his family.
