Cape Town Concert Brass

Horns

This section contains the following players:

  1. Len Worthington-Smith
  2. Walter Coupe
  3. Kerri Bridges
  4. Jane Redfern
  5. Mischka Swartz

We occasionally have the services of Steve Horwood (when he is not travelling on distant geological expeditions).  Charles Cunningham has been a regular for many years but is currently taking a break in the UK.  We also anxiously await the return of Kirsty Eriksen.

Our players use French Horns as opposed to the Tenor Horns used in traditional brass bands.  The tenor horn is like a shrunken tuba or small euphonium and fills the Alto part in the band, being pitch between the Baritones/Trombones and the Cornets.

The French Horn contains long, thin tubing and is played in its upper registers to achieve a similar pitch level as that of the Tenor Horn.  However the French Horn has its own unique sound that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
